Why Local Service Websites Don't Get Phone Calls

You built a website so the phone would ring. It doesn't. Here's why local service sites go silent — and the small changes that get people dialing again.

Why Local Service Websites Don't Get Phone Calls

For a local service business, a website has one real job: make the phone ring. Everything else — the gallery, the about page, the fancy hero video — is optional. When the phone doesn't ring, it's almost always the same handful of reasons.

Why the phone stays silent

1. The number isn't where the eye lands

On a local service site, the phone number should live pinned to the top of the header, tap-to-call on mobile, big enough to read at arm's length. If a visitor has to scroll or hunt, most won't.

2. It's not click-to-call

On phones, a number written as plain text is a dead number. Wrap it in a tel: link so tapping it dials — anything else costs you calls.

3. The site doesn't say when you're open

People don't call businesses they think are closed. Show hours next to the number. "Open now" logic wins even more calls.

4. No urgency, no reason to call today

"Free same-day quote," "Emergency service available," "Booking this week — 3 slots left." Something has to push the visitor from thinking to dialing.

5. No trust signals near the number

Reviews, years in business, a real face — placed next to the call button. Strangers don't call anonymous businesses.

"The phone doesn't ring because the site never gave anyone a reason, or a way, to call in the next 30 seconds."

The five-minute fix

  • Pin a tel: link in the header on every page.
  • Add opening hours and an "open now" badge beside it.
  • Put a star rating and review count directly under the number.
  • Add one urgency line: same-day, emergency, or limited slots.
  • Repeat the call CTA at the bottom of every page — not just contact.

Do those five things and calls typically double inside a month, without spending a euro more on ads.
