Why Google Maps Isn't Enough Without a Good Website

A Google Business Profile gets you found. A good website gets you hired. Here's why local businesses that lean only on Maps leave most of their leads on the table.

Why Google Maps Isn't Enough Without a Good Website

"I don't need a website — I'm on Google Maps." We hear it every week. It's half true. Maps gets you discovered. It rarely gets you hired.

What Google Maps actually does

A Business Profile shows your name, hours, phone, reviews and directions. That's it. It's a business card pinned to a map. For a coffee shop, that's often enough. For a service business with real competition, it's the start of the funnel — not the finish.

What Maps alone can't do

1. Sell the service properly

A profile can't explain why a €4,000 kitchen fit-out is worth it, walk through your process, or show ten before/after photos. That work happens on a website.

2. Rank for the searches that don't show a map

"Kitchen renovation Utrecht" shows a map pack. "How much does a kitchen renovation cost in the Netherlands" doesn't. The buyers researching for weeks before they call live in the searches Maps never appears in.

3. Convert the visitor who's comparing three options

Every serious buyer opens three tabs. Two competitors have proper sites with case studies, pricing, and named reviews. You have a phone number and a star rating. Guess who books the call.

4. Protect you from a bad review

One angry review on your profile with nothing else to counter it can sink you. A site with fifty case studies, ten videos and a real About page absorbs the hit.

"Google Maps opens the door. A website is what's inside the shop. Skip the shop and most visitors walk to the one next door."

The minimum viable site behind your Maps profile

  • A homepage that names the customer and outcome in one line.
  • A page per service, each targeting its own keywords.
  • 10 real photos of your work.
  • 5 named reviews with location and job type.
  • A tap-to-call header and one clear form.

You don't need forty pages. You need six good ones, working with your Maps profile — not instead of it.
